SHOPS 1ST TRY is an on snow test event exclusively for snowboard retailers. We were lucky enough to take part and test some 2016/17 products for you.

The whole event is based on the initiative of the leading snowboard brands, the EUROSIMA Snow Division (European Surf Industry Manufactures Association) and the board sport business magazine SOURCE. And behold … more than 50 brands got together to provide for full range testing at the gathering of the SHOPS 1ST TRY league.

The event SHOPS 1ST TRY took place at Skijuwel Alpbachtal – Wildschönau in Austria from 17-19 of January. And the gods of snow were good to us and we got some proper amount of powder to test all powder boards there are. Just check the happy faces on the photos bellow.

What else can we wish for? Oh yeah, coffee and waffles! Dakine took care of that for us too. Free coffee, waffles and free gloves! All you had to do is bring them your old pair, awesome right?

So our energy was on maximum, belly´s full and hands dry and warm. Time to hit the slopes and test some boards for you!

Space, unicorns, purple and mint are the next years patterns and colours, almost every snowboard brand had on girls products. Some of them we have to say were a bit over the top :)

First set we tried was NEW Never Summer PROTO board (size 145cm)  and Flux GU purple bindings (S size).

Name: Mateja, snowboarding for cca. 13 years

Height: 171cm

Weight: 60 kg

Boot size: 39,5 EU

Style: Park / Slopes / Powder

Current set up: Nitro Fate 147cm + Nitro Lynx bindings + 32 boots

New PROTO board is women´s all mountain twin Ripsaw Rocker Camber board.

What does that mean? It means that it has rocker shape between bindings and camber on the nose and tail. It provides superior edge hold, amazing playfulness, incredible float and gigantic pop…especially when compared to traditional camber boards.

It has perfect Mid Flex, deeper heel-side sidecut, rocker camber profile which makes it super easy to control. This makes it most versatile board we tried.

Screen Shot 2016-02-11 at 21.28.12We tested the board on hard slopes and soft deep powder and the board loved it both. My board was 145cm, which is a bit shorter than my usual board, but as much fun as any.

We would recommend the board to everybody that wants a versatile board you can take to park, slopes and deep pow.

5/5 for fun/quality/control/pop

3/5 for design, just because we think it´s time to put this galaxy design behind us and slowly return back to Earth

Price is expected to be above average, around 700€ so High *****

Board comes in lengths 139 , 142, 145, 148 and 151 cm

Never Summer’s reputation of quality and durability began in the early years of snowboarding. Designing and building snowboards since 1983 has given them years of experience in testing and perfecting snowboard designs and construction methods. The end result of their experience coupled with a close working relationship with the world’s leading raw materials manufacturers and engineers allows them to bring you the most durable, high performance boards on the planet!

Each board is carefully handcrafted in Denver, Colorado factory to precision tolerances. Domestic manufacturing and ability to improve upon existing technologies resulted in Never Summer being awarded the first patent on any type of hybrid camber technology. They allow only the world’s best snowboard shops to sell our products.

Focusing less on excessive promotion and hype, and more on using the highest quality materials, craftsmanship, and customer service has made Never Summer the world’s premier independent board company.

Since Never Summer makes only snowboards and longboards.  We got with this board  FLUX GU bindings in size S and colour purple and it was a perfect fit for the board.

This is a women´s soft, light park binding with great flex that worked perfect with this board. The bindings will come in 2 sizes, XS-S and S-M. It could be that the one we tested was size XS-S and it was a little bit too small for boots 39.5 EU as you can see on the photo below.

5/5  for flex/quality/control

5/5 for Design

Price is expected to be a bit above average, around 300€ so High *****

Stiffness is Medium 2/5 and Lightness 4/5 (so very light).

This was definitely one of our favourite boards that we tested, so if this set up is in your price range, go for it you will definitely not regret it!

Next Saturday we will show you our test of Capita Birds Of Feather board and Union Milan bindings. Stay tuned.
